Dear Readers…

I have switched to a self-hosted blog. Unfortunately, that means that I can’t bring my WordPress email subscribers with me (at least, not that I know of). I would really love it if you would all come with me though! All you have to do is go to http://owltellyouaboutit.com, and that will take you to the new site. There is an email subscription there that will be delivered by Feedburner. I hope you will come and re-subscribe. Thanks so much for reading!

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me at lauraashlee@gmail.com.

Importing!

I originally wanted to go through and move every audio review over manually. I was thinking I could update their format while I was doing this. While that was a good plan in theory, I decided yesterday to just import all of it instead. I have no idea what that means for my feed or my email subscriptions. If you receive a million posts from me because of this, I’m really sorry. It will be nice to have all the audio reviews here. I can update their formats while I’m updating my other posts.

Here goes!

Book Badges!

That’s right! I’m following a small trend. You know what though? I love book badges. I think they’re creative and good for skimmers. And I have nothing against skimmers. I do it sometimes. It really depends on the review and the book, but occasionally I just don’t want to read the whole review. And if I’m wondering “is there sex in this book? maybe profanity? is this okay for teens?” well I can just check the book badges below the post. So, that’s why I made these. I thought I’d just make a quick post to explain them.

This one is for books containing sexual content. I’ll only use it when the content is detailed enough to merit a warning. If the book just mentions people having sex, but doesn’t go into anymore detail, I won’t bother with it.

This one is for funny books. If it made me laugh out loud, I’ll be sure to include this badge.

This one is for books that are good for teens or young adults. ‘Nuff said.

This one is for the kiddie books! I do enjoy reading those now and then. It’s not just little tiny kids, but any children below teen years, so middle grade counts too.

This one is for books with a good bit of profanity. I some people like to know that kind of thing before they delve in, and I read books with profanity pretty often, so here’s my warning!

This one is for books containing graphic art, from manga to picture books to graphic novels to narrative books that just have art scattered throughout.

This is for my favorites! I suppose I could just stamp this on every book I give five stars, but sometimes there really is a distinguishing factor between great books and books that I loved so much that they are a favorite. That distriguishing factor is that I want to read it all over again when I’m finished. I love it when that happens!

This one is for audiobooks and I think it’s pretty obvious so I’m going to move on.

This one is for those books that just didn’t work for me, books I couldn’t finish or skimmed so much I feel uncomfortable rating them.

That’s it! Those are my badges. I hope you like them and they’re helpful. I’m pretty excited about them myself.

Apologies

Sorry about the two random Black Butler posts that went out. Just working to make the blog better!

Audio Madness!

Starting next week Fridays will be audio madness! I’m trying to get my audio reviews moved to this blog and I’m starting by moving over books in a series and certain authors I’ve listened to on audio a lot.
