Lola and the Boy Next Door
by Stephanie Perkins

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit — more sparkly, more fun, more wild — the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket — a gifted inventor — steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

I’m also still reading Forever by Maggie Stiefvater.

Don’t Stop Now
by Julie Halpern

On the first day of Lillian’s summer-before-college, she gets a message on her cell from her sort-of friend, Penny. Not only has Penny faked her own kidnapping, but Lil is the only one who figures it out. She knows that Penny’s home life has been rough, and that her boyfriend may be abusive. Soon, Penny’s family, the local police, and even the FBI are grilling Lil, and she decides to head out to Oregon, where Penny has mentioned an acquaintance. And who better to road-trip across the country with than Lil’s BFF, Josh. But here’s the thing: Lil loves Josh. And Josh doesn’t want to “ruin” their amazing friendship.

Josh has a car and his dad’s credit card. Lil has her cellphone and a hunch about where Penny is hiding. There’s something else she needs to find: Are she and Josh meant to be together?

There’s a couple of others I’m hoping to get to before the week’s up. We’ll see if I can manage it. I’m also starting an Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass  read-a-long. I’ll have a post up about that later this week. I’m really doing it because I want to read it, but you can participate if you like.

What are you reading this week?

  7. I've read two books b Gaiman so far. I listened to both on audio, so I'm keeping with that trend for now. I'm excited about this one because it's not an adult book like the others were.

  19. Deb, Game of Thrones is definitely long. There are 28 CDs! It's so worth it though. I'm not very far yet, and it's already amazing.Magpie, don't even get me started on Jericho Barrons. He is pure sin. Sin I want to commit very badly. ;)Sheila, the Fever series is pretty good on audio. The narrators change up on the for the fourth and fifth books. Phil Gigante joins to read the men's voices and does an excellent job. If you're into Highlander romances, he also reads all of the books in her Highlander series. They're so good. He's does a great Scottish brogue. Puss, I'm glad to hear that the Graveyard Book is good on audio.
