24-hour Read-a-Thon: Hour 8

Hour 8 is here. I’ve read most of the time, which is good. I’m sad because I couldn’t finish Hush, Hush. The last disc is scratched and is skipping like crazy. I know that’s the risk of getting them from the library. I’ve already checked the library to make sure there’s a print version available for me to go grab and finish tomorrow. I began Paper Towns. It looks pretty unscathed so it shouldn’t be skipping.

I’m going to be taking a break soon to grab some food and I’ll probably read one of my manga books. Things are going pretty well! I’ll try to take some time to go around and cheer everyone else on in the next couple of hours.

The mini-challenge for this hour is Love to Hate. We’ll all be sharing the characters we love to hate. I really enjoy a character I love to hate rather than just don’t like so I love this challenge.

1. Caroline Bingley from Pride & Prejudice. She’s one of my favorites. She’s so cold and proud. I loved her little insults carefully disguised behind gentility. I hate her, and it’s so much fun to hate her!

2. President Coin from Mockingjay. I was right with Katniss from the beginning on this one. There’s just something not right about that woman. She immediately intimidated me. I hated her just as much as Snow. I was practically cheering at her outcome in the book.

3. Captain James Hook from Peter Pan. He’s a very deep villain, I think. It explains a lot about him and I really enjoyed disliking him. Honestly, I think he’s the perfect antagonist.

4. Sauron from Lord of the Rings. Ok, I don’t really feel like I need to explain this. I just can’t make a list like this and not mention him. He is the villain.

5. Cathy & Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. I have to mention the characters of my favorite book! I absolutely despise them, but love them at the same time. They’re horrible, selfish people but they created this wonderful book that got me back into reading. They’re definitely my favorite “love-to-hate” characters.

Who do you love to hate?

  2. President Coin is a good one, forgot about him. And Cathy and Heathcliff, they're HORRIBLE! I include Prince Humperdink from the Princess Bride by William Goldman.
